Self Defence Training - Learn the Basic Techniques Today




Krav Maga is a form of Israeli self-defence training that is becoming popular in other parts of the world. This method of martial arts was originated by Israeli military personnel and taught to the Israeli police force until its adaptation. As such, Krav Maga can be regarded as one of the most refined and realistic forms of martial arts. Unlike many other self defence systems, Krav Maga features a mixture of combative training, dynamic stretching and strength training, which are the key to building a solid defense without resorting to gimmicks or showmanship.


Krav Maga is an offshoot of Judo and Jujutsu and utilises a combination of throws, holds, Wrestling and grappling techniques. It also uses a mix of weapons and implements, including stick, sword, shield and gun, although it also uses shields and knives. Krav Maga uses several types of self-defence tactics or fighting, such as boxing, Judo, Jujitsu, wrestling and jujitsu, but it also uses weapons and implements only for the initial part of the course. In the initial stages, Krav Maga Training students are taught to defend against an opponent or several opponents using only weapons, using only bare hands, knee pads, headbutts, elbows and fists. The emphasis is on striking first and defending with the legs, feet, head and knees. It is designed for building stamina and bringing the mind into balance, so that a person is able to act in a proactive manner and not react to an attack.


A basic premise of the self-defence training is that one should never fight a combatant directly, but rather, try to dominate the combatant's mind through a series of manoeuvres and attacks, which are meant to disable or distract the opponent, while you strike and make him or her unconscious or escape from the combatant's power. Krav Maga also believes that if a combatant is distracted for a long enough period of time, then he or she can be rendered immobile or vulnerable. The aim of Krav Maga is to ensure that the opponent is unable to continue with their plans or to defend himself or herself and thus, if possible, to cause as much damage as possible.


As a result, most of the techniques in Krav Maga are highly evolved, practical techniques that can be easily learned and applied in real life scenarios. They are also highly modified and adapted from traditional martial arts, with a few exceptions, but the emphasis is on attacking and controlling, rather than on trying to escape or protect yourself. However, since the techniques are largely based on the same principles used in conventional Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, the possibility of cross-training is also possible.


Many of the techniques are designed to incapacitate or distract your attacker so that you can strike, ultimately scoring a point, or "abo". These techniques are very different from traditional striking and kicking methods, such as jiu jitsu and jujitsu. Self defence training programmes should always include striking techniques, otherwise you are not giving your martial arts class for a complete workout. The defence training programmes should teach strikes and throws at the maximum range of motion, and not just in the standing position. The two basic techniques that you should have learned by now are the triangle and the gi. The former comes from the natural position of a boxer or wrestler and is called mount. The latter is from a position that is half guard, where you have taken your opponent down and are attacking his or her mid-section from a dominant position.
